Interactive math simulations for the classroom, and a few notes on the intuition behind them.
This is where I keep the interactive simulations I use in class, along with the occasional note on the ideas behind them.
The goal is simple: build intuition you can see and touch. Every simulation runs live in your browser, so you can drag a point, tune a slider, and watch the mathematics respond in real time. Change a learning rate until gradient descent diverges, shrink a step until a secant becomes a tangent, or add harmonics until a sum of sines snaps into a square wave.
The simulations are grouped by area: calculus, linear algebra, statistics, machine learning, deep learning, generative AI and physics. Pick a topic and start poking at it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Every simulation has a What to observe section with a handful of guided questions, in case you want a nudge toward the interesting behaviour.
- Keyboard shortcuts work everywhere: space to run or pause, s to step, r to reset, f for fullscreen.
- There is a light and a dark theme (the toggle sits in the top-right), and a Link button that copies a shareable URL of your current setup.
